Primary Genealogical Sources

The main providers of websites where access can be gained to census, births, deaths, marriages and material of a universal nature. Many are free, others are pay per view.

Yorkshire and
Northern Dales and Archives

There are two sections that cover the Yorkshire Dales in particular but also County Durham,
Cumberland, Northumberland, and Lancashire. These cover the areas that many members are
researching and include familiar or vernacular dales websites but also specific archives and record
offices where the original records are held.

United Kingdom, England,
Ireland, Scotland and Wales

It seemed essential to cover the rest of England outside the “Dales" area, and to include contact information specifically for Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

The Rest of the World

Five discrete sections cover website links to overseas collections recommended by members to help those whose ancestors have emigrated, or returned to the United Kingdom. Overseas - Europe
will include France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Belgium.

Military Records

Most families have someone who "fought for their country" and this section includes links to
Regimental Museums, the War Graves Commission, POW records and Medal Cards

National Archives

Essentially direct communication to National Record Offices as well as regional and county Archives

Historical lnformation

The history of various groups and individuals eg Nurses, Police and additional sites that may help with
 the period before the 17th Century barrier that most of us encounter in our research.

Societies

Contact details of Family History Societies, Associations and Genealogical Groups.

Books, Magazines,
Maps and Images

Self explanatory, and much smaller sections giving details of websites with access to old ordnance
survey maps, images of the Dales area, and recommended suppliers of books and magazines.
