An introduction to the
Upper Dales Family History Group

The Upper Dales Family History Group (UDFHG') was founded in November 2000 following intense activity by Glenys Marriott and a group of like-minded enthusiasts.
It is a branch of the
Cleveland, North Yorkshire & South Durham FHS.  Click to display a map covering the area of interest of our branch.

The aim of the Group is to support those members whose ancestors had their roots in Wensleydale and Swaledale. These ancestors often wandered far and wide so it is not surprising that our members' genealogical interests spread nationally and internationally.

The Group holds regular Local Meetings (see Programme) and also supports an extremely active, free-to-join email Forum which has correspondents from all parts of the world as well as local members.

The Group is characterised by the enthusiasm and generosity with which we help each other to discover more about our Dales ancestors, their identities, way of life, local conditions in their time, in fact any topic which brings Dales family history to life.

An introduction to the email Forum

The Forum is hosted by Yahoo!Groups where our Group name is dalesfhs.  The Yahoo website (dalesfhs) should not be confused with our own UDFHG website.

The email Forum is only accessible to members who have successfully applied to join. Each contribution to the Forum is the copyright of the donating member. Information stored in the Forum archive is often confidential and we expect our members to treat what they find with respect, and with discretion. For all these reasons, we ask you to give a reason for joining when you decide that you would like to become a member and your application is processed by our Membership Moderator.

Members are registered with dalesfhs using an ID and Password which, among other things, allows them to browse and search all members' email messages archived since 2000.
